I love working wood; and I enjoy working with, and for people that appreciate quality woodwork. Woodworking is my passion and I enjoy all aspects of the process from conceptualization to completion.
My work provides me great balance of interpersonal contact, mental & physical exertion and the great satisfaction of seeing my customer’s ideas take three dimensional and functional shape.
The cabinetry, millwork and architectural details in your home or office represent a significant expense. Perhaps more than anything else they define the style, ambiance and appearance of a room. Why then, should you consider Craftsman Woodworks when selecting a vendor for these items? What limitations does this small local shop have that may not make them your best choice?
Every item that leaves the shop is either produced by, or inspected and tested by the owner Christopher Stapleton. He takes full responsibility for all work coming out of the shop. Clients of Craftsman Woodworks are provided the owners phone number at the beginning of a project. Most of the time outstanding customer service or consult is only a phone call away.
Craftsman Woodworks is a small, skill-based, custom woodworking shop committed to excellence in woodwork and design. We are not now, nor will we ever be, a large production based factory. We construct products using the highest quality material and components available for a given application and budget. Using an appropriate combination of time-honored techniques, hand tools and the finest machines of their kind, we insure that our work will meet or exceed your requirements now and last for generations.
Unlike factory produced items sold through lumberyards and design centers, we are not resellers of someone else’s product, nor are we limited to stock items and options. We produce our own high-quality custom designed products and have access to thousands of hardware and specially service vendors serving the custom woodwork industry. Combined with our design services and drafting capabilities, we usually satisfy or exceed design expectations, no matter how unusual.
Craftsman Woodworks provides detailed design descriptions and supports them with two dimensional shop drawings, and / or photo- realistic three-dimensional renderings. We utilize the most advanced design and build software available and can output directly to CNC enabled machinery. Careful review of these visual and textual details insures that Clients understand and direct the cost / benefit equation to suit their needs prefrences and budget.
We are not the least expensive custom woodshop in the area, nor is that our goal. Craftsman Woodworks seeks to produce the highest quality product within a Client’s budget and in this regard we are very competitive. Serving demanding and discerning customers takes expertise, patience and commitment. We believe that these attributes, the quality of our work, and a fair price combine to make us make us a value leader in custom woodwork.
First and foremost, Craftsman Woodworks is in the custom woodworking business. Though we can provide exceptional installation services I prefer to focus on my specialty. For some ‘feature’ or complex pieces, I will insist on performing the delivery & install. But most of the time I request the Client’s contractor perform these services. If necessary, we will provide installation oversight and instruction. Likewise we are not a storage facility, under no circumstances do we store completed work beyond a predetermined period specified in client's contract.
We are a small shop capable of producing limited amounts of high quality work. Our current capacity is for about 5 large kitchens a year and dozen or so smaller projects. We typically work 50-hour weeks and perform only one major job at a time. If your project is a fast track project, or way behind schedule and needs to make up ground quickly, you might be better served at another larger shop. We appreciate the importance of meeting deadlines and the urgency of the construction / renovation business, but we are here to do quality work at a fair price, and that takes time.
We believe in our skills, our service and ourselves so our warranty is second to none. We offer a lifetime warranty on our products, for as long as you own the property in / on which they were initially installed. If you’re not happy with the product and we’re responsible for a material defect or error, we’ll fix the problem.
Chris Stapleton founded Craftsman Woodworks because he loves the challenge of designing and building beautiful things in wood. He does not believe in cutting corners. We use classic joinery techniques like mortise & tennon, cope & stick, floating tennon, miterfold, dowel & glue, tongue and groove, full and blind dados, spline joints and dovetails. We pilot hole, glue and screw all cases together. We do not assemble items with staples, or ready to assemble (RTA) fasteners. Consequently, we believe our products are more likely to end up in an antique shop than on the curb or in the dump.
The Craftsman Woodworks shop is a modest but well equipped 1500 sf facility. The shop is partitioned into a machine room and an bench, assembly & finsihing area. There is a full attic above the 10’ ceilings of the machine room. The bench & assembly room features 17’ ceiling heights for the largest of assemblies. An adjacent 225 sf office keeps the dust off the computers.
